Liability Coverages

Liability insurance is insurance which protects a person or entity from claims initiated by another party. In this section we will examine the most common types of lability coverages a business carries.

General Liability

General Liability coverage makes up the bulk of a liability policy and covers the following exposures:

Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability
Helps protect you against financial loss in the event your business is held liable for someone’s injury or property damage.

Injury
Helps protect your business from claims of false arrest, malicious prosecution, libel, slander, wrongful eviction, discrimination or humiliation, or invasion of the right of privacy. It also protects you if others claim you infringed on their copyrights in your advertisements or that you copied their advertising ideas.

Medical Payments
Pays for reasonable medical costs, regardless of fault, if someone is injured on your premises and needs medical treatment.

Damage to Premises Rented to You
Covers up to a specified limit when your lease makes you responsible for damages to the premises that you rent or occupy if the damages happen as a result of fire, lightning or explosion.

Products and Completed Operations Liability
Product Liability pays for bodily injury or property damage caused by a finished product that is sold. Protects importers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers from liability claims caused by the products they sell.

Completed Operations pays for bodily injury or property damage caused by a completed project or job. Protects a business that sells a service against liability claims.

Umbrella / Excess Liability

Umbrella insurance or excess liability provides coverage for losses above the limit of an underlying policy or policies such as general liability, product and completed operations liability, employers liability, and commercial auto insurance. While it applies to losses over the dollar amount in the underlying policies, terms of coverage are sometimes broader than those of underlying policies.

Pollution Liability

Pollution Liability is a form of insurance designed to cover losses and liabilities arising from damage to property caused by pollution.
